My excitement for this project was 11/10. Acrylic pouring is probably one of my favorite types of art. However, I have learned that it is just not for me. My first attempt was the night before I recorded the video.
While it was still wet, my lovely sister accidentally stepped on it.

It was an honest accident and I didn't want to just waste a perfectly good piece of art(okay, maybe not perfect at this point.) So, I took my new skill of perseverance and put it to work. "Shit happens" was the first saying I thought of when she texted me that she stepped on it. So now, I have a lovely piece of art.
I first started by choosing my colors, then mixing them with Liquitex Pouring Medium and some silicone oil. I think I put too much silicone oil in the paint mixture because as you can see in the above image, it is all cracking and whatnot. When I tried again, I didn't use as much silicone and there wasn't as cool of an effect. I guess that the paint is just bumpy???? I don't know.
Then, I tried doing the technique where you place the cups upside-down on the canvas and move them all around. That wasn't working out so I ended up just literally pouring the paint onto the canvas and aimlessly tilting the canvas around. I definitely tilted way too much because it ended up looking like one big blob anyway.
Ugh.
Traditional painting is so much easier for me than acrylic pouring. I am still learning the ratios of pouring medium, paint, and whatever oils or effect medium I want to use. Maybe one day in the distant future I will try again, but for now I am going to stick to my traditional painting with paint, a palette, and a brush.
I learned that not everything is as easy as it looks. When I watch videos or see Instagram posts of acrylic pouring, it looks so seamless and easy. However, I now am giving so much credit to those amazing acrylic pouring artists.
I don't have much more to say about the project except that this just wasn't for me ☹
Until next time,
Sarah
